The God Delusion

I just finished reading a very thought-provoking book, The God Delusion, by Richard Dawkins. I was surprised at how extremely opposed Dawkins is to religion, and how strongly in favor he is of strict atheism. Overall, he does make a fairly strong case for why atheism is not only more accurate, but potentially better for society. Some bullet points:

* Dawkins' successfully disavows the notion of an omniscient or omnipotent Creator-type of God.
* Along these lines he makes it very clear how natural selection, and statistical probability, via the "anthropic principle" sufficiently explain the creation of the universe at is it is, i.e. no intelligent design required.
* Dawkins also does a great job demonstrating that morality is driven by natural selection genetic code and memes (ideas), and not driven by religion.
* For the geeky reader (i.e. me), there was some other interesting stuff about natural selection of universes and a demonstration that human life is better described as a wave, rather than a series of particles.

But the best thing about the book was that he helped eliminate the tendency of true atheists to feel guilty about it. Personally, I'm still an agnostic Jain (his arguments core Jain concepts such as the soul, karma, were minimal), but I'm certainly more comfortable in my agnosticism than in the past.
